JACKSON BANKING ON CONTINUED GOOD FORM AT ROCKINGHAM
BMW Dealer Team UK head to Corby next weekend (12-13 April) for the second meeting of the HiQ MSA British Touring Car Championship at the Rockingham Motor Speedway.
Team driver Mat Jackson, who is backed by Birmingham-based Accident Exchange, enjoyed a more than impressive start to the opening round at Brands Hatch with two second place finishes and as a result now lies in second place in the Championship standings, two points shy of defending Champion Fabrizio Giovanardi.
The Henley-in-Arden-based driver, who will have 36-kilos of ballast for the first race in his BMW 320si, a legacy of his second place finish in the final race at Brands, will line up on the grid along with 26 other competitors as they go head-to-head in the treble bill of race action. A bumper crowd is anticipated at the impressive all-seater venue which welcomed more than 30, 000 spectators last year, all of which are set to enjoy a thrilling day, courtesy of the UK's premier tin-top championship.
The BMW Dealer Team UK completed a comprehensive test programme at the 1.94-mile track last month finishing atop the timesheets, something the team will be eager to repeat next weekend.
Twenty-six-year-old Jackson commented, " We have had an excellent start to the season and now it's important to keep the momentum going, we have to score points in every round to keep the pressure on. It's true we had a good test here last month, we know the car is more than capable so it is up to us to make sure we have another positive weekend."
Team principal Chris Tee echoed Jackson's comments, "We know we are in good shape but as Mat says it is all about bagging the points, you can't win a championship in the first few rounds but you can certainly lose it. Mat showed that he is more than capable of scoring points and that's exactly what we will be aiming to do at Rockingham."
